When does your MOT certificate expire? By law, if your car is aged 3 years old or over, it’s highly likely that it needs to undergo annual MOT testing. Passing this test ensures your vehicle meets the legal standards for safety, roadworthiness and emissions. If you let your MOT certificate lapse and you drive without a valid document, you face the prospect of a fine. In addition, it’s almost certain you will invalidate your car insurance and you won’t be able to renew your road tax.
G & R Autos are DVSA-approved mechanics based in Tunbridge Wells. Motorists in Crowborough, Hildenborough, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Paddock Wood, Matfield, Brenchley, Groombridge and the neighbouring areas trust us for fast, fair and honest MOTs and car servicing.
Contact us to schedule an MOT or enquire about the other services we offer.
When your vehicle passes its MOT testing, we present you with a certificate valid for 12 months. You can renew this up to 1 month before the stated expiration date. We add any time in hand on your old certificate to the new one.
Put simply, an MOT is a yearly check-up of your car or commercial vehicle’s health. During the test, one of our mechanics works through a multipoint checklist of visual inspections. This list covers a wide range of external and internal vehicle components.
MOTs are strictly visual tests. This means your designated examiner cannot change or remove anything on your car. In turn, this is why you must visit G & R Autos for annual car servicing too, as it covers checks that MOTs don’t.
If we pass your vehicle at the end of its MOT testing, we certify that the relevant parts meet current legal standards. This means you can get back on the roads of Tunbridge Wells and the wider Kent area again.
Whether you’re in Crowborough, Hildenborough, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge or the surrounding areas, call 07484 692 445 (Greg) or 07542 633 209 (Ryan) to schedule your MOT. To help minimise disruption to your working day, G & R Autos provides a free collection and delivery service within a 5-mile radius of our workshop. You must book in advance for this service.
As your local mechanics, we carry out class 4 and class 7 MOT testing.
Generally speaking, we complete MOT testing within 45 to 60 minutes. Of course, if you need any repair work to pass, this will prolong the length of your service.
Like any customer-focused mechanic, G & R Autos understands the inconvenience that comes with taking your car off the road. We work tirelessly to complete your test, and any subsequent repairs, as quickly as possible. Our workshop in Tunbridge Wells has dedicated MOT ramps to keep the chance of delays to a minimum.
Be it faulty lighting, tyre issues or brake-related problems, your car can fail MOT testing for an array of reasons. If your vehicle does fail, don’t panic. Assuming you haven’t left your test to the last minute, your current MOT certificate remains valid. If we haven’t classified any issues as ‘dangerous’, you can legally return to the roads of Crowborough, Hildenborough, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge or the neighbouring areas.
However, we record your car’s failure on a VT30 certificate. This means you must undertake the required repairs before undergoing a partial MOT retest. Please note, if you wait more than 10 days, we must carry out another full MOT.
As time-served mechanics, we excel at car repairs of every kind, so we can complete yours on a responsive basis. We will strive to do so on the same day. Of course, we always seek your consent before starting any repair work.
